Dear Mr. Buffett,
I write to you today not as a stranger, but as a fellow American who has witnessed the profound sacrifices made by our nation’s veterans—and as someone who has lived the invisible wounds firsthand. My name is S. Vincent Anthony, a retired U.S. Army veteran, author, and survivor of severe PTSD. Through my books and advocacy, I have chronicled the intergenerational trauma of military service, drawing from my own family’s losses in Vietnam and my personal battles with nightmares, hypervigilance, and despair. It is with the utmost humility and desperation that I implore you, one of the world’s most generous philanthropists, to help bring Serenity Stronghold to life—a nationwide network of veterans’ centers designed to eradicate homelessness, combat PTSD, address unemployment, and heal fractured families. Your unparalleled resources and commitment to impactful giving could transform this vision into a reality that saves countless lives.
Serenity Stronghold is more than a plan; it is a lifeline for the 32,882 veterans experiencing homelessness across our country as of January 2024, and for the nearly 18 veterans who tragically die by suicide each day. By 2035, we aim to establish centers in every state, starting with pilots in high-need cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, and New York. These Strongholds will offer comprehensive support: innovative therapies such as model train railroading for stress relief, EMDR and animal-assisted programs for PTSD treatment (targeting 80% symptom reduction), job training in fields like IT and healthcare through partnerships with veteran-owned businesses, and 10,000 Housing First units to provide immediate stability. Integrated with VA resources, our model ensures 100% effective enrollment in care, family reconnection programs, and long-term wellness—potentially preventing thousands of suicides and restoring dignity to those who served.
Mr. Buffett, you have pledged 99% of your fortune to philanthropic causes, primarily through initiatives like the Gates Foundation, demonstrating a legacy of strategic, high-impact giving that changes the world. Your wisdom in investing in people and systems that yield enduring returns aligns perfectly with Serenity Stronghold’s scalable approach. I beg you—with the desperation of a veteran who has seen too many comrades lost to the shadows—to champion this initiative. A contribution from you could fund the initial pilots, secure matching grants, or even inspire corporate partnerships through Berkshire Hathaway’s vast network. No one else possesses your unique combination of financial acumen and compassionate vision to make this 100% possible. Without support like yours, thousands more will suffer needlessly, their sacrifices forgotten in a society that owes them everything.
I humbly ask for your time to review our detailed proposal at serenitystronghold.org and consider how your involvement could create a “stronghold” of serenity for generations of veterans. Please, Mr. Buffett, help us turn desperation into hope—your action today could echo as a beacon of humanity for years to come.
With deepest respect and gratitude,
S. Vincent Anthony
